Internship Opportunity

PLA Inclusive Internship Initiative Program

Our Library

Logan County Public Library opened in August of 1967 at 201 West Sixth Street in Russellville, Kentucky, with branches in Adairville, Auburn, and Lewisburg. An addition that almost doubled the size of the Russellville branch was completed in 1974. Our services continued to change over the years to meet user needs and to embrace new opportunities as modern technology continued to develop. Space usage underwent a number of changes to accommodate those services. These changes, along with consistently increasing usage, resulted in the new building at 225 Armory Drive in 2013. Now at the new location, our collection has continued to grow, we are known as a respected community partner, we offer a year-round continuum of diverse programs responsive to community needs and interests, and we serve as a technology hub for Logan County.

Benefits and Importance of Internship

In 2017, the Public Library Association (PLA) piloted the Inclusive Internship Initiative (III), which was designed to present librarianship as a viable career option for the next generation of Americans.

The library is here to serve the entire community, not just parts of it; that is why we are taking the initiative to bridge the gap between the Spanish-speakers of Logan County and the library. Spanish-speakers in Logan County are a marginalized group and currently have little to no representation within the library. With the help of a bilingual student intern, we will be able to reach that population and communicate with them more effectively, plan more ESL programs, and provide more resources and materials than we could before.
